Heartland Properties, Inc., the affordable housing subsidiary of Alliant Energy Resources, announced today that it has approved a $745,000 investment in Deer Meadow, a senior housing development in Keokuk, Iowa. The City of Keokuk, U.S. Department of Agriculture, Iowa Finance Authority and the Iowa Department of Economic Development are providing additional financial support.
Deer Meadow offers an affordable housing option for adults age 62 and older in the Lee County area. The one-story, brick building, located at 715 Cleveland Avenue, includes 24, one-bedroom apartments, each featuring a full-sized kitchen and bath and individually controlled heat and air conditioning. A community room and central laundry are also available to residents. On-site wellness clinics, financial counseling and crisis assistance is provided by the Lee County Health Department.
The benefits of investing in Deer Meadow are two-fold according to Gary Williams, manager of economic development for Alliant Energy. "First, it addresses the need for more affordable housing for seniors. Secondly, it stimulates economic development in the community of Keokuk and Lee County," explains Williams. "Alliant Energy is proud to be a partner in high-quality projects in the communities we serve."
Deer Meadow was recently completed by Burns and Burns, L.C. of Iowa City who developed the $1.8 million housing project. NMC/RPB Management Co. of West Des Moines provides property management and is accepting rental applications at Deer Meadow. A ribbon cutting ceremony is planned for later this spring.
