Actor Bradley Whitford, a Madison native and star of "The West Wing," is helping promote "Hammer With a Heart," Project Home's volunteer project that kicks off today to help low-income families make repairs to their homes.
Whitford, who recently won an Emmy Award for his role as Josh Lyman on the popular dramatic series, shot public service announcements promoting the benefit now being aired on local TV stations.
"Madison has always been a place that I have been proud to call home," he said. "One of the things that I love about Madison is its sense of community. I'm glad to give back to the town that gave me so much as I was growing up."
Volunteers and friends of Project Home will provide local low-income homeowners and nonprofit-owned facilities with needed repairs today.
Sponsors include WISC-TV, WB14, American Family Insurance, J.H. Findorff & Son Inc. and Heartland Properties Inc., an Alliant Energy company.
For more that 30 years, Project Home's mission has been to improve the quality and affordability of housing for low- to moderate-income residents in Dane and Green counties.
