Heartland Properties Inc., a division of Alliant Energy Resources, co-hosted a wall bashing ceremony in Dubuque on Thursday, June 14. The ceremony was the official start of a downtown renovation project - the Cornerstone Senior Apartments. The facility will house 31 one- and two-bedroom apartments for people 55 and over.
The building under construction is the former Iowa Inn/YMCA, located on the corner of 9th and Iowa Streets near the Dubuque G.O. The historic structure was built in 1894 and will retain all architecturally significant features in order to preserve the heritage of the community. The project is part of an on-going effort by the city of Dubuque to revitalize its downtown area. Ruth Domack, President-HPI, and Terry Duggan, Mayor-Dubuque

"Preserving this landmark building demonstrates our steadfast commitment to future generations and a strong respect for the past," says John Larsen, managing director-Electrical Engineering and Asset Management. "All of us at Alliant Energy are proud to be part of this community effort and look forward to being neighbors to residents of the new Cornerstone Senior Apartments."
The adaptive re-use of this historically significant building is made possible through the combined support of the city of Dubuque and a $3.5 million investment by Alliant Energy Investments.
MetroPlains Development is working with Heartland Properties on the project, which is scheduled for completion in summer 2002.
