Community and business leaders will gather at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 29, for a ribbon cutting to celebrate the opening of a new multi-family housing development. Pickerel Park Townhomes will provide high-quality, affordable housing for residents in the Albert Lea area.
Pickerel Park Townhomes, located at 1825 9th Street West in Albert Lea, is a 24-unit apartment community. The 2.2 million-dollar project includes 12 two-bedroom and 12 three-bedroom apartment homes. Pickerel Park Townhomes are located near Pickerel Lake, and feature garages, surface parking and a playground.
Pickerel Park Townhomes was developed by Newbury Development of Des Moines, Iowa and was made possible through a $1.3 million investment by Alliant Energy Resources through its affordable housing subsidiary, Heartland Properties, Inc. Strong community support was demonstrated by the City of Albert Lea throughout the construction.
Many organizations contributed to the success of Pickerel Park Townhomes, including the Minnesota Housing Finance Authority, Department of Trade and Economic Development and the Greater Minnesota Housing Fund. Pickerel Park is meeting its goal of providing quality housing for families. The apartments are fully leased with a waiting list.
A tour, including refreshments, will be held immediately following the ceremony.
