Meeting the needs of seniors in the Beloit area for quality affordable housing required a team effort between Heartland, the City, Neighborhood Housing Services of Beloit and Horizon Development and Investment Corporation. Hillcrest Apartments, constructed in 1995, was the housing solution for older adults on Beloit's northwest side. The 66-unit 3-story elevator building is located adjacent to a grocery store and shopping center for easy access by residents. In addition to the investment by Heartland, the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority (WHEDA) provided a first mortgage of $1.3 million. Heartland also provided a second mortgage of $90,000. Hillcrest offers residents underground parking, laundry facilities and a community meeting room.
